Holding the Select Board accountable for their choices is critical. They recently renewed the town manager’s contract. There is still confusion regarding when the Select Board knew about the report and whether they read it themselves. It is currently believed that they have not seen the report but relied on the Town Manager and Human Resources Director for information.

Write the select board

The Andover Select Board appoints the town manager, per town charter. The town manager may only be removed by a majority vote of the full board (currently the Board consists of five members, meaning three must vote to remove). As the elected body for Andover the Select Board is accountable to the voters. The five members all sit at-large (Meaning they represent the entire town). Vispoli and Howe will be defending their seats in March. This is a great opportunity for new leadership.

Important questions to ask

  • Who is going to direct AYS?

  • Is AYS going to have autonomy over hires going forward?

  • Aside from the 1% budget increase and having the director of HR work from the CYC what is the town doing to support AYS?
